Project#3 Synopsis

A goal of the shots is to show a simple everyday situation that anyone can relate to. To achieve that goal, my shots are about the disappearance of an eraser. That one simple yet frustrating event happened to me a lot which I noticed many people also experienced at least once in their life. I will have a friendly approach to the audience, starting with my actor sitting at the desk, studying. The shot will be wide, in order to first introduce the environment around the actor and give a sense of everyday reality. Then I will take a medium shot of the actor, focusing on the action of the actor. Then the shot will move to a close-up shot of the notebook that he is studying on, switching to the first-person view. The actor will stop what he is doing - writing with pencil/pen on the notebook, studying - then immediately the shot will move to an extreme close-up shot of the eyes of the actor, frowning as if something is wrong. Then the shot will return to the close-up of the desk, this time slightly toward the side of the notebook to give a feeling of missing, that something is supposed to be there. The camera will lightly shake side to side, as if the actor's eyes are moving, searching. Then the shot will back up, showing a medium shot of the actor searching for an eraser - under the desk, below chair, pockets, etc. After that, the shot will refocus on top of the desk, showing the actor's arms continuing with the search on top of the desk this time. Then he will finally find the eraser below the notebook. Relief, the arms will become relaxed, uses the eraser and return to studying. Depending on the work and time, I will decide whether to take a shot of the disappearance of the eraser again and show increased frustration or just end with a solution. Since the actor will be sitting throughout the scene, I would not be switching too much of continuity, providing a relaxed view. My shooting location is undetermined, but since I only need one desk so I am thinking of the classroom or just outside the hallway where there are a desk and a chair.
